What is Web Design?
Web design refers to the design of websites that are displayed on the internet as well as to the user experience aspects of website development.
Website design used to be focused on designing sites for desktop browsers; however, design for mobile and tablet browsers has become increasingly important.
Today, designing a website goes beyond aesthetics to include the website’s overall functionality – it includes web apps, mobile apps, and user interface design.
A web designer works on the appearance, layout, and, sometimes, content of a website. Appearance, relates to the colors, font, and images used. Layout refers to how the information is structured. Websites need to be easy for the user to navigate, have clear content and be aesthetically pleasing.
Web designers need to pay attention to various aspects when designing a site:
Finding Inspiration – Designers look for inspiration everywhere. Blogs, other sites, nature, city life and more.
Choosing a Web Design Tool – There are two main ways to design a website: using a desktop app or using a website builder. The tool you decide to use will vary greatly based on your team size, your budget, and the type of site you wish to build and its technical requirements.
Before you start building a website, make sure you know what you need for that particular site : Are you creating a photo gallery? How often will you update your site? Do you need a contact form? Choose a website builder that can help you accomplish those goals.
Visual elements – These include things like: written copy, fonts, colours, shapes, spacing, layout, speed, use of videos and animations, site structure.
